Contests — submitting and hosting
Entering a contest
- Find an open contest in the Contests menu. The list is split into Open · Upcoming ·
Past contests, and open contests always come first.
- On the submission page, choose a project, then check the episodes you want to submit. You can submit several
together. If the contest rules set a number of episodes, the screen tells you the range up front, and submission is blocked if you're outside it.
- A format pre-check (format, body, episode count) runs automatically — it flags anything that falls short before you submit.
- AI check before submission (optional, 10 credits): one pass right before you submit that suggests spelling corrections, gives
dramaturgy notes, and checks continuity. It's for reference only and never blocks submission. If you selected several episodes, only the first is checked.
- Enter your contact details (name, email, phone). They're used only for the organizer to contact you if you win,
and are not visible to the organizer before results are announced — judging is based on the work alone.
- Co-creators are filled in automatically from the project members, and the script as of submission is
frozen as a separate copy (later edits don't change the submitted version). The planning document (logline, synopsis, planning intent) and lead characters are also kept as a copy and become judging materials.
- When submission is complete, a confirmation is sent to the email you entered.
- Check your submission history and status in My submissions.
Hosting a contest (organizers)
You need organizer permission to host a contest. Apply through "Contest hosting inquiry" at the bottom of the screen.
- Apply — send your organization name, contact person, contact details, introduction, and plans for the contest.
- Review — an operator checks it. During review, only the application status is visible.
- Result — once approved, a contest management menu appears at the top. If rejected, the reason is shown and
you can apply again from the same screen.
You can't create a contest before approval.
Editing the rules
Even after opening, you can edit the title, purpose, submission format, length, eligibility, judging criteria, prizes, number of episodes accepted, and schedule from "Edit guidelines" on the contest screen.
- Once there is even one submission, you can't change the accepted work type — work that has already been submitted
mustn't end up outside the format after the fact.
- Contests whose results have been announced or that have been archived can't be edited.
Judging and evaluation
- Scoring criteria: set the criteria and point values on the contest screen. If left empty, you receive only overall comments,
without scores. Once even one review has started, the criteria can't be changed — changing point values would change the meaning of scores already given. Set them before submissions open.
- Reading submissions: click view in the submission list to open a read-only screen. Scripts are typeset in script
format and can't be edited. Use previous/next to read several submissions in a row. Submissions with several episodes are read continuously, divided by episode headers.
- Viewing the planning document: the "Planning document" tab on the reading screen has the logline, synopsis, planning intent, and lead characters.
It's a copy from the time of submission, so it doesn't change even if the writer edits it later.
- Downloading as a file: the PDF button creates one document with the planning document and script. Judging is designed to happen on screen;
use this when you'd rather print and read.
- Sorting: with multiple submissions, you can sort by newest submission · highest score · work title.
- Evaluation: leave a score and overall comments right below the reading screen. You can't see other
judges' scores until you save your own — so you aren't swayed by whoever scored first. Once you save, you can see each other's scores and comments.
- Decisions: change a submission's status to Under review · Changes requested · Passed · Not selected · Awarded. When the status changes,
the submitter is notified (a changes request includes the reason).
Announcing results
- In the submission list, click the award icon and enter the award name (e.g. Grand Prize, Best Work).
Leaving it empty removes the award.
- Change the status to announced to publish the results. You can also leave overall judging comments at this point.
- When you announce, every submitter gets a notification and an email (those who didn't win are waiting for results too).
The notification doesn't say whether they won — they check on the results screen.
- The announcement screen has its own address, so you can share it as is.
- After the announcement, the winning submitters' contact details are visible on the judging screen — use them for prizes and follow-up.
Announcements can't be undone. Awards can't be changed after the announcement, so finish assigning them before you announce.
What's made public is the award name, work title, and writer name only. Submitted scripts are not made public — they were submitted to be judged, not to be published.
Inviting judges
Add people by email under members and judges (organization admins only). When you add someone, they receive an invitation email. If they haven't signed up yet, ask them to sign up first — you can only add the email of an existing account.
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Admin | Open, configure, and decide on contests + manage members |
| Manager | Open, configure, and decide on contests |
| Judge | Read submissions and submit only their own evaluations |
Judges can't change the submission deadline or finalize winners — the roles are split so you can safely give access to external judges.
